What we do to reduce our impact

Sustainability is at the heart of Steel Jackdaw.

The magazine is dedicated to reducing its impact and has measures in place to reduce its environmental impact.

What we are doing:

1) We offset carbon by planting trees through Treeapp, a smartphone application that enables people to plant one tree for free every day, and by helping brands to spread the word about their sustainable products and services. We have a business subscription with Treeapp that contributes to tree planting and environmental projects around the world. TreeApp is a trusted organisation with verified and ethical practices.

These offsets make a positive difference. Our energy and carbon impact is calculated online on the TreeApp website. This takes into account the energy used the run the magazine, including the energy used to host this website. Our monthly business contribution more than covers our carbon impact, which makes us carbon positive.

2) The magazine is a digital-only publication, helping to eliminate paper waste.

3) 5% of magazine and advertising sales are donated to ClientEarth, an international environmental charity, and the Nelson Trust, a Gloucestershire-based charity supporting people in recovery.

4) We encourage our suppliers to do the same or use providers that are either carbon neutral or commit to reaching that target.

5) We actively encourage our readers to make their own positive difference to the environment. Our magazine promotes creatives, brands and organisations that make this difference. We believe that each edition inspires people to make positive changes.
