Mission Statement

Our values and intentions

Steel Jackdaw has big dreams for a better world

Steel jackdaw sets out to promote positive change in the world, locally and internationally, through positive action.

How?

  • The quarterly magazine features the work of selected artists from a wide range of creative disciplines as a showcase for creative talent that promotes good in the world, both socially and environmentally.

  • We welcome submissions from people of all ethnicities, beliefs, abilities, genders and backgrounds.

  • We aim to create an inclusive platform for artists, makers, creatives and performers, one that promotes and demonstrates equality and diversity.

  • We donate to two chosen charities, that do good, both environmentally and socially. 10% of submission payments and eBook sales from our Quarterly publications is donated to ClientEarth and The Nelson Trust. 5% goes to each charity.

  • The magazine promotes sustainability and positive environmental change. We encourage our readers to take positive action, by donating to environmental causes or getting involved with them.

  • Steel Jackdaw encourages our readers to help their local community, or support social charities.

Our Dreams

We dream for Steel Jackdaw to become a leading arts magazine in the UK and internationally and creating a ripple of positive change where our readers make a positive difference.

We aim to have a community element to our publication, be that a regular focus on a community project, group or organisation in the magazine editions, or to give a platform for those to reach a wider audience.

We have hopes to provide mentoring to creatives, that need support or encouragement to reach their goals and aspirations.

We aim to reach a revenue that enables Steel Jackdaw to financially support projects that do good, in addition to our two charities.

In the future we hope to be able to demonstrate the impact of Steel Jackdaw, through real life accounts of the benefits of our donations, how our readers have taken positive action and how the magazine has inspired people to use creativity for change.

In an ideal world the jackdaw would become a protected species with the title of the grandest of all birds and worshipped every lunchtime at 12pm, plus a national jackdaw day where people dress up in costume and sit on tree branches, calling ‘tchack’ in harmony!

Okay, so the previous statement was added to catch you out - but feel free to praise Jackdaws (we LOVE them), though we strongly advise you not to sit on tree branches, unless you are a jackdaw in human disguise!?
